Dear reader,
We live in a world that never sleeps, where notifications never stop, and life seems to be measured in “likes” and followers. But amidst all this noise, have you taken a moment to listen to the whisper of your heart? That deep longing that cannot be satisfied by a new “post” or the latest trend. That desire for something more, something lasting, something real.
The Imitation of Christ, written over 600 years ago by Thomas à Kempis, is a work that has helped millions of people discover what truly matters: a life centered on Christ, the only One who can fill the emptiness in our hearts. Though it was written in a very different context from ours, its message is as relevant today as ever. Because truth never goes out of style.
This adaptation seeks to speak directly to Generation Z—to you, who seek authenticity in a world full of appearances. We want these words to be a guide, not to disconnect you from reality, but to help you live it more fully, more freely, and more truthfully, with your eyes fixed on the One who said: “I am the way, the truth, and the life” (John 14:6).
It doesn’t matter if you’ve been a believer all your life, if you’re rediscovering your faith, or if you’re simply curious. What matters is that you open your heart and let these words speak to you. Because Jesus is not an idea or a figure from the past: He is a living Person who loves you and wants to walk with you.
Now, let us walk together toward the first chapter. Remember: this is not about reading quickly but about allowing these words to transform you.
Chapter 1: On the Imitation of Christ and Rejecting Empty Appearances
Adapted for Generation Z:
Nowadays, everyone wants to be an “influencer.” Everyone wants to stand out, to be seen, to be followed. But what’s the point of the whole world following you if, deep down, you feel lost? Jesus teaches us something completely different: it’s not about accumulating fame or things, but about learning to live as He lived.
“Whoever follows Me will not walk in darkness” (John 8:12). These words of Jesus are like a lighthouse in the middle of a storm. They invite us to set aside appearances and focus on what truly matters: living with authenticity, with love, and with our eyes fixed on eternity. Because everything the world offers—money, success, recognition—is fleeting. Here today, gone tomorrow.
Think about it: how many times have you felt empty after spending hours on social media? How many times have you sought validation from others, only to realize it wasn’t enough? Jesus doesn’t ask you to be perfect, but He does invite you to follow Him, to place your heart in Him, because only He can fill that emptiness.
The world tells you: “Be the best, be the most popular, be the strongest.” But Jesus tells you: “Be humble, be true, be Mine.” It’s not about impressing others, but about transforming your heart. Because what truly matters is not what others see, but what God sees in you.
So, don’t obsess over accumulating things you can’t take with you when this life ends. Seek what lasts, what has eternal value. Instead of wanting to be followed by thousands, follow the One who can lead you to eternal life: Christ.
Practical Reflection:
Today, take a small “detox” from social media. Use that time to sit in silence, reflect, or read a passage from the Gospel.
Ask yourself: What am I really looking for? Am I living to impress others, or to please God?
Pray this short prayer: “Lord Jesus, teach me to follow You. Help me to stop chasing fleeting things and to focus on what truly matters: You.”
To be continued…
Tomorrow, with God’s grace, we will move on to Chapter 2. May the Lord accompany you on this journey of discovery and transformation. Would you also like to receive a short prayer or verse to meditate on along with each chapter? 😊
